Fall 2024 Wrap-Up

Dr. Yalong Pi leading the Generative AI Mastery Workshop

Today is the last day of classes for the Fall 2024 semester! This semester, TAMIDS hosted eight workshops and ten speakers in our Seminar Series and sponsored three data challenges and datathons hosted by student organizations. One of our most successful workshops was our Generative AI Mastery Workshop hosted by Dr. Yalong Pi which had over 100 participants! Members of our staff also attended multiple graduate and professional school fairs across the state, including the University of Texas’s San Antonio campus, to promote our Master of Science in Data Science program.

TAMIDS also added two new post-doctoral research associates to our Thematic Labs. Dr. Brittany Garcia (Texas A&M School of Architecture) joined our Data Justice Lab after completing her dissertation on enhancing user experiences in collaborative virtual reality environments. She presented her work at the CyberPsychology, CyberTherapy, and Social Networking Conference (CYPSY) in October and received the Young Minds Student Poster Research Award. Also joining us was Dr. Xingzhuo Chen (Texas A&M Department of Physics & Astronomy), whose work has been published in multiple leading journals including The Astrophysical Journal.

Our other programs like our Student Ambassador program were also very active, giving presentations across campus and hosting data science events in their own departments! Our Student Ambassadors come from a wide range of departments, but all have a passion for data literacy, research, and education. You can view our 2024-2025 cohort here.

This semester was full of learning, outreach, and collaboration. All of this would not be possible without our amazing data science community!
