Abstract: During his career spanning over 27 years at GE Research Center, the speaker had the opportunity to develop solutions to several complex operations optimization problems facing the company. The speaker will share some those solutions which he and his team had implemented in several industries including aviation, renewables, energy, healthcare, rail, finance, and broadcasting. This is an online seminar.

Biography: Dr. Srinivas Bollapragada is a Chief Engineer specializing in Operations Research, Artificial Intelligence and Analytics at General Electric’s Global Research Center (GRC) in Niskayuna, NY. During the past 26 years at GE Research, Dr. Bollapragada had led the development of numerous innovative algorithms and decision support systems that are in use at several GE businesses and their customers. Some of his accomplishments include the Movement Planner algorithm for dispatching trains, the Yard Planner algorithm for building trains, algorithms for sourcing and delivering wind turbine towers and blades to wind farm sites, managing intermodal rail terminals, selling and scheduling television commercials, managing contractual service agreements, recovering airline schedules from disruptions, optimizing service operations, computing optimal inventory levels, improving hospital operations, optimizing financial portfolios and supporting investment decisions. Dr. Bollapragada has a Ph.D. in Operations Management from Carnegie Mellon University, and Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from IISc, Bangalore and IIT Madras respectively. He is the recipient of several awards including the Edelman (2001, 2017), Wagner (2009, 2004, 2002) and Nicholson (1996) finalist awards, IISE Transactions best paper award (2009), GE’s Idelchik (2015) and Blodgett awards (2009) for technical excellence, and the Dushman award (2010) for team leadership. He had served as the Editor-in-Chief of Interfaces (2011-2016),Chair of the Edelman award committee (2008-2010), the Area Editor of OR Practice (2008-2010) and President of INFORMS Practice Section (2020-2021). He was named an INFORMS Fellow in 2009.
