Abstract: This is not your typical slide progressing seminar. It is a conversation with Nadieh Bremer and Shirley Wu, authors of Data Sketches, to learn their journey of imagination, exploration, and beautiful data visualizations on the project as a whole, the visuals and writing a giant coffee table-meetstechnical book.
Biographies

Nadieh Bremer is a data visualization artist who once graduated as an Astronomer, started working as a data scientist before finding her true passion in the visualization of data. As 2017’s “Best Individual” in the Information is Beautiful Awards, she focuses on visuals that are uniquely crafted for each specific dataset, often using large and complex datasets while employing vibrant color palettes. She’s made visualizations and art for companies such as Google News Lab, Sony Music, the New York Times and UNESCO.

Shirley Wu is an award-winning creative focused on data-driven art and visualizations. She has worked with clients such as Google, The Guardian, Scientific American, SFMOMA, International Rescue Committee, and NBC Universal to develop custom, highly interactive data visualizations. She combines her love of art, math, and code into colorful, compelling narratives that push the boundaries of the web. Her work can be found at shirleywu.studio.
