Mission & History

The Texas A&M Institute of Data Science pursues new approaches to Data Science research, education, operations and partnership. These approaches cross college boundaries to connect elements of Data Science from engineering, technology, science and humanities, and inform wider social challenges.

Faculty Advisory Committee
The Institute’s Data Science Faculty Advisory Committee is composed of distinguished faculty members from various disciplines within the university. This committee plays a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction of TAMIDS, ensuring that its research and education initiatives align with the Institute’s mission and goals. By providing expert insights and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, the committee helps to advance innovative data science research and education. Master of Science in Data Science Coordination Committee
The Coordination Committee for the Texas A&M Master of Science in Data Science degree program ensures it meets the highest standards of academic excellence and industry relevance. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and integrating cutting-edge research into the program, the committee plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience of data science students.
Research Affiliates Network
TAMIDS Research Affiliates are Texas A&M’s Data Science experts, with over 200 members drawn from 32 Texas A&M Colleges, Agencies, and other major organizational units. Research affiliates are Texas A&M faculty (including tenure, professional, instructional, and research tracks), researchers (including research scientists and postdoctoral researchers), and operations and administration staff and professionals, whose roles and interests include Data Science.
Industry Affiliate Network
The Institute’s Industry Affiliate Program connects member organizations with Texas A&M students who will form the next generation of leaders and innovators in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. TAMIDS has established a network of relationships with over 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students who are active in TAMIDS programs and events.
