TAMIDS’s Spring Programs & Deadlines

The Texas A&M Institute of Data Science (TAMIDS) Spring 2024 Programs provide opportunites for students, staff, and faculty to explore new research, collaborate with peers, and receive support to fuel their passion for data science.

2024 STUDENT DATA CHALLENGE: IMPACT OF SEA LEVEL RISE | February 26–April 18, 2024 | Climate change is causing unprecedented challenges for our society. One of the most pressing challenges for coastal communities is Sea Level Rise (SLR). To meet this challenge, communities, industries, and governments need access to data-driven climate research. This event allows students to earn prizes by participating in a fun, team-based data science competition with real-world data. Students can participate in special tutorials, office hours, and other events throughout the competition. Visit u.tamu.edu/2024-Data-Challenge for more information about the competition, the prizes, and how to register. The deadline for teams to register is February 26, 2024. 

2024 DATA SCIENCE COURSE DEVELOPMENT GRANT PROGRAM | March 4, 2024 | TAMIDS, in association with the Texas A&M Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), solicits proposals for enhancing Data Science education at Texas A&M. TAMIDS will provide up to $15,000 in unrestricted funds to support the development of for-credit courses entailing at least three SCH for graduate and undergraduate Texas A&M students, training programs for Texas A&M communities, or external educational outreach that entails a similar participant effort. EARLY CAREER COLLABORATION PROGRAM | March 25, 2024 | The Early Career Collaboration Program invites proposals for two-year projects to expand research collaboration with TAMIDS Thematic Labs and support individuals interested in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning. Award teams will receive up to $40,000 for two-year projects to support engagement with TAMIDS research activities, programs, or its broader mission. The program is open to multidisciplinary teams from any field of study and requires collaboration with one (1) TAMIDS Thematic Lab. DATA SCIENCE STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM | April 5, 2024 | This competitive scholarship program provides TAMIDS Ambassadors with leadership, technical, and training skills which they practice through engagements in their home departments. We help Ph.D. students of all majors become agents for change to catalyze the adoption of Data Science in new communities. Established in 2022, each Ambassador receives a $2,000 scholarship that qualifies them for the Non-resident Tuition Waiver for Competitive Scholarship Recipients.
