
Cyber Wise Orientation Session

The competition’s opening Technical Orientation Session will set the stage for an exciting journey into the world of data science and cybersecurity. Held in person at the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building (ILSB) and accessible remotely via Zoom (only registered emails will have access), the session is designed to provide participants with everything they need to get started. Attendees will gain insights into the competition’s structure, key milestones, and expectations, along with an overview of the datasets and their real-world context. Expert-led presentations will introduce foundational approaches to statistical analysis, data visualization, and effective project management strategies.
Whether you’re a seasoned data scientist or a newcomer, this session will equip you with the tools and knowledge to succeed in the Cyber Wise 2025 Student Data Challenge.
Cybersecurity Club—CTF
Throughout the Cyber Wise competition
The Texas A&M Cybersecurity Club is hosting a beginner-friendly Capture the Flag (CTF) competition throughout Cyber Wise. This will be a fun, jeopardy-style cybersecurity trivia mini-competition that will keep you engaged in Cyber Wise and reinforce your cybersecurity knowledge. Workshop Q&A
Thursday, March 6, 2025 | 6:00pm–7:30pm
The organizers will host an online workshop and Q&A session to support participants in developing essential skills and understanding for the competition. This interactive session will cover practical techniques for tackling data science challenges and background insights into cybersecurity. Participants will also benefit from personalized guidance during the open Q&A session, where they can seek advice on their specific projects or clarify competition details. Designed to enhance your learning experience and boost your confidence, this workshop is a valuable opportunity to refine your approach and gain insights that can set your team apart. Cyber Wise Midpoint Showcase
Saturday, March 22, 2025 | 10:00 am–5:00 pm
Join us for a fun and engaging one-day event packed with opportunities to connect, learn, and compete to earn prizes. Organized by the Aggie Data Science Club (ADSC) and Texas A&M Institute of Data Science (TAMIDS), the event features a low-code mini-competition, an alumni and data science professional panel with networking opportunities, and the chance to win prizes for your Cyber Wise Visualization Summaries. The Midpoint Showcase is part of the Cyber Wise 2025 Student Data Challenge but is open to all students at Texas A&M.
- ADSC Mini-Competition: Test your skills in a low-code data science challenge and show your creativity and problem-solving abilities! The Mini-Competition is a standalone challenge open to all students who want a fresh opportunity to showcase their skills. With its own unique content and prizes, the mini-competition is designed to spark creativity and teamwork in a fun, low-pressure environment.
- Alumni Panel & Networking: Hear from TAMU alumni and data science professionals about their career journeys and insights into the field, followed by a chance to network and build connections.
- Cyber Wise Visualization Prizes: Cyber Wise teams may optionally submit a one-page summary graphic of their initial work before the Midpoint Showcase. The submissions will be reviewed by guest judges, and special “Best Visualization” prizes will be awarded to each of the top three teams across both divisions. Join the Cyber Wise competition to participate in this session.
The Final Event!
Wednesday, April 16, 2025 | 6:00pm–9:00pm
The Final Event will culminate weeks of innovation and hard work as finalist teams present their projects to a distinguished judging panel. It is more than just a competition—it’s a celebration of creativity, teamwork, and data-driven problem-solving. Finalists will showcase their written reports and deliver compelling presentations, competing for top honors and special team prizes.
Each team will submit a single report through Canvas by April 3, 2025, 11:59 pm. You can find more information about the report requirements on the Cyber Wise Rules page. A panel of expert judges will select finalists from each division, who will have one (1) week to prepare a presentation for the Final Event.
For non-finalist participants and attendees, the event offers additional games and activities designed to spark creativity and foster connections, ensuring everyone remains engaged and inspired.
The evening will conclude with the highly anticipated announcement of the competition winners and recognition of outstanding efforts, making it a memorable finale to the Cyber Wise 2025 Student Data Challenge.
