Seminar Series: Dr. Seung Won Yoon

Dr. Seung Won Yoon is the president of the Academy of Human Resource Development for the 2024–2026 term. His research focuses on enhancing both employee and organizational growth by integrating leadership, learning, knowledge sharing, and technology. He passionately applies frameworks from social capital, network science, and data analytics to achieve these goals. He also served two terms as an associate editor for the Human Resource Development Quarterly journal from 2015 to 2022.

Data Science and AI in Education and the Workforce
This session will provide an overview of HR and People Analytics—how organizations use data science to inform critical decisions such as hiring, onboarding, promotion, and workforce planning. I will then showcase four recent projects I have led that illustrate the breadth of data science applications: (1) predicting employee turnover, (2) predicting early dropout among college students, (3) classifying STEM teacher pedagogy using natural language processing, and (4) mapping leadership and hidden collaboration networks to combat invasive species in ten states. The session will conclude with an open Q&A and discussion of opportunities for collaboration on research and projects that integrate AI and data science to address challenges in education, organizations, and workforce development.
