Workshop Details

This free data science workshop aims to provide an introductory overview of data science topics, specifically designed for participants with minimal to no experience in programming.

This workshop is open to all Texas A&M University students. However, to support the unique needs and interests of veterinary researchers in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, we are prioritizing on-site participation for students, graduate students, and veterinary professionals in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. We encourage all interested participants to register early, as space is limited, and priority seating will be given to veterinary professionals. Thank you for your understanding.

Through a hands-on approach, the sessions will help attendees:

  • Explore practical techniques for handling large datasets and performing advanced analyses.
  • Build foundational knowledge of Python programming.
  • Understand machine learning concepts and their applications in veterinary medicine.

Schedule

  • Day 1 — Python review
  • Day 2 — ML & Linear model, Data Manipulation
  • Day 3 — Classification (decision trees, random forest, naïve bayes…)
  • Day 4 — ML Ops (training/testing, over/underfitting)
  • Day 5 — Unsupervised learning
