


TAMIDS is proud to announce the addition of three new fellows, Dr. Thanos Gentimis, Drs. Hadi Salman, and Reid Powell!
Dr. Thanos Gentimis
Research Coordination Fellow
Dr. Gentimis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences at Texas A&M University and leads the Group for AI in Agriculture (GAIA). With a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Florida, a postdoctoral background in applied data science at NC State, and an assistant professor position in Statistics at LSU, his research spans machine learning, remote sensing, geospatial analytics, and digital agriculture. As a TAMIDS Fellow, Dr. Gentimis supports interdisciplinary collaborations and AI-driven innovation across the AgriLife network, focusing on sustainable agricultural systems and mentoring graduate students in data-intensive research.
Dr. Reid Powell
Research Coordination Fellow
Dr. Powell serves as the TAMIDS Research Coordination Fellow as well as a Research Assistant Professor at the Institute of Biosciences and Technology. Dr. Powell has an extensive background in interdisciplinary research that integrates data science and machine learning, making him an excellent addition to the TAMIDS team. He received his doctorate in Medical Science from Texas A&M in 2018 and specializes in extracting biological insights from high-throughput phenotypic screens, serving as the head of data science and artificial intelligence within the Gulf Coast Consortium.
Dr. Hadi Salman
Knowledge Development Fellow
Dr. Salman is an Instructional Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics and a Knowledge Development Fellow at TAMIDS. His work bridges AI and bioinformatics to address real-world challenges through interdisciplinary research. He mentors students on applied data science projects and serves as the technical lead in coordinating with project sponsors to identify research topics and guide project development. Dr. Salman is a valuable addition to our team with his dedication to student engagement and supportive initiatives.
We are excited to welcome Dr. Gentimis, Dr. Powell, and Dr. Salman to TAMIDS! Their expertise and commitment to interdisciplinary education, research, and collaboration strengthen TAMIDS’ mission to increase data science literacy and impact.
