It might be summer break for students, but TAMIDS is still working hard to provide learning opportunities for AI researchers and faculty! This summer, TAMIDS has partnered with several institutions and universities to offer training workshops and community-based events that will enhance the understanding of AI tools and resources in the Texas A&M Data Science community and beyond. These events are made possible by the dedication of these institutions to collaboration, outreach, and education.
Graduate Research Development Workshop (July 21 – 25, 2025)
In collaboration with Prairie View A&M University and Texas Southern University, this workshop aims to provide students with valuable expertise in the methods and tools of data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning that they can apply to their ongoing research. Participants will be able to share their research challenges and brainstorm solutions with peers and experts, as well as gain hands-on practice with AI and machine learning tools in interactive sessions. This workshop is possible due to the NASA-DEAP Institute in Research and Education for Science Translation via Low-Resource Neural Machine Translation Award.
Introduction to Gen AI Machine Learning Workshop (July 22, 2025)
This introductory workshop on generative AI and machine learning tools is offered by TAMIDS and the Center for Teaching Excellence at Texas A&M with support from NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute. As part of TAMIDS’ Generative AI Literacy Initiative, participants will learn core concepts, explore common techniques, and gain hands-on experience using NVIDIA tools. The goal of this workshop is to help faculty and staff develop their skills and establish a solid foundation in AI and machine learning techniques.
Advanced Computing Workshop (August 19 – 21, 2025)
The rapid evolution of high-performance computing and increasing utilization across research and operations has made GPU programming an essential skill for researchers and engineers. This workshop will address the growing demand for expertise in massively parallel programming and will prepare Texas A&M researchers to use the LAUNCH cluster and the NVIDIA DGX H200 Superpod purchased by the Texas A&M University System. The Advanced Computing Workshop represents a collaborative effort between Texas A&M High Performance Research Computing (HPRC), the Texas A&M Institute of Data Science (TAMIDS), the NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), and the Texas A&M University System (TAMUS).
Innovative AI Tools and Resources Showcase (August 19, 2025)
This showcase is a community-based event for faculty, staff, and graduate students to discover new AI resources and their applications. Expert speakers will be sharing tools they have used to improve their research and will lead discussions on how Texas A&M’s AI researchers can adopt these innovative resources.
Through these workshops and events, TAMIDS and its partners are equipping not only Texas A&M’s data science community but communities around the country with the knowledge and skills to excel in the rapidly changing field of artificial intelligence. By fostering these collaborations and offering hands-on learning, these summer programs will ensure that students, faculty, and researchers are prepared to tackle future challenges.
