Dr. Jian Tao, TAMIDS Assistant Director for Project Development

Dr. Jian Tao, Assistant Professor, Department of Visualization, College of Architecture, has been appointed as TAMIDS Assistant Director for Project Development. Dr. Tao has been a key contributor to TAMIDS programs in education, training and research engagement, and already serves as the Associate Director of TAMIDS SciML Lab. In his new role, Tao will lead development and execution of Data Science collaboration between TAMIDS and Texas A&M academic and operational partners.
Dr. Tao received his Ph.D. in Physics (Computational Astrophysics) from Washington University in St. Louis in 2008. He is a contributor to the SPEC CPU 2017 benchmark suite. He is also an NVIDIA DLI University Ambassador and XSEDE Campus Champion at Texas A&M University. His research interests include computational physics, high performance computing, parallel programming, numerical algorithms, computational framework, data analytics, machine learning, and workflow management.
Dr. Shahina Rahman, TAMIDS Coordinator for Student Initiatives

Dr. Shahina Rahman, Instructional Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, College of Science, has been appointed as TAMIDS Coordinator for Student Initiatives. Dr. Rahman will lead efforts to develop TAMIDS student engagement programs. Dr. Rahman received her Ph.D. in Statistics from Texas A&M University in 2015 and was named a 2021 ConocoPhilips Data Science Faculty Fellow in recognition of her contributions to development of Data Science courses. Dr. Rahman’s research interests include Machine Learning and High dimensional Data Analysis.
Dr. Ming Zhong, Postdoctoral Research Associate, TAMIDS SciML Lab

In July 2021, TAMIDS welcomed Dr. Ming Zhong as a Postdoctoral Researcher for the TAMIDS Scientific Machine Learning (SciML) lab. Dr. Zhong joined us from Johns Hopkins University, Department of Applied Mathematics & Statistics. Dr. Zhong received his PhD in Applied Mathematics & Statistics and Scientific Computing (AMSC) from the University of Maryland in 2019. His interests include applied mathematics with expertise in numerical analysis, scientific computing, and machine learning. In SciML Lab, he develops new methods for solving PDE related forward and inverse problems using Deep Neural Networks and Gaussian Processes.
Dr. Jian Cao, Postdoctoral Research Associate, Department of Statistics and TAMIDS

Dr. Jian Cao joined the Department of Statistics, College of Science, in June 2021 as Postdoctoral Researcher with Dr. Matthias Katzfuss, Associate Professor, supported in part under the TAMIDS Postdoc Project Program. Dr. Cao obtained his Ph.D. degree in Statistics from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in 2020. In 2018, he won the Student Paper Award from the Statistics Computing Section of the American Statistics Association. Dr. Cao’s main research interests include computational statistics, Gaussian processes, and parallel computing. For his TAMIDS activities, Dr. Cao collaborates with Dr. Katzfuss and Dr. Seth Murray, Professor and Butler Chair for Corn Breeding and Genetics, Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, on statistical modeling and prediction for corn-field growth.
