A team of graduate students from the TAMIDS Master of Science in Data Science (MSDS) Program competed at TAMUHack 2025 and took home awards for Best Devpost and the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Challenge. TAMUhack is the largest student-run software engineering organization at Texas A&M. They host annual hackathons to give students the opportunity to apply what they have learned in their computer science classes in a fun, competitive environment.
“We show students the ropes when it comes to source control, app development, and practical applications of coding knowledge.”

Dheeraj Mudireddy, Praneet Surabhi, and Akash Pillai are students on the computer science track of the MSDS Program. Together, they built NimbusNews, a GenAI tool that transforms raw meteorological charts into broadcast-ready video reports with one click. Using AWS S3/Bedrock, Cloudflare, and Deepgram, they constructed NimbusNews to analyze weather patterns with AI vision, generate human-like summaries, and provide lifelike narration through an AI “news anchor.”
The MSDS Program is an on-campus interdisciplinary program offered by the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mathematics, and Statistics, and is administered jointly with TAMIDS. Each of these departments offers a track within the program so students are able to personalize their experience based on their educational and professional goals. Our unique multidisciplinary approach provides students with a solid foundation in computer science and machine learning while also connecting STEM and the humanities.
Projects like NimbusNews are the perfect example of innovative students applying their knowledge to real-world situations. The MSDS Program is proud to have Dheeraj, Praneet, and Akash as students and representatives in the TAMU data science community. We can’t wait to see what they do next!
